Revisiting Emission-line Measurement Methods for Narrow-line Active Galactic Nuclei

چکیده

Measuring broad emission-line widths in active galactic nuclei (AGN) is not straightforward owing to the complex nature of flux variability these systems. Line-width measurements become especially challenging when signal-to-noise low, profiles are narrower, or spectral resolution low. We conducted an extensive correlation analysis between from optical spectra Markarian 142 (Mrk 142; a narrow-line Seyfert galaxy) taken with Gemini North Telescope (Gemini) at 185.6+\-10.2 km/s and Lijiang (LJT) 695.2+\-3.9 investigate disparities measured broad-line both telescope data. Mrk~142 posed challenge due its narrow profiles, which were severely affected by instrumental broadening lower-resolution LJT spectra. discovered that allowing permitted lines having components vary during fitting caused leak component, resulting broader Fixing ratios constrained yielded Hydrogen-beta $\sim$54\% closer than flexible ratios. The availability different resolutions presented this unique opportunity inspect how our data adopt method accurately measure widths. Reconsidering line-measurement methods while studying diverse AGN populations critical for success future reverberation-mapping studies. Based on technique used work, we offer recommendations measuring line AGN.

Spatially-resolved Narrow Line Region Kinematics in Active Galactic Nuclei

We have analyzed Hubble Space Telescope spectroscopy of 24 nearby Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) to investigate spatially-resolved gas kinematics in the Narrow Line Region (NLR). These observations effectively isolate the nuclear line profiles on less than 100 parsec scales and are used to investigate the origin of the substantial scatter between the widths of strong NLR lines and the stellar ve...

A New Dual-component Photoionization Model for the Narrow Emission-line Regions in Active Galactic Nuclei

Having found that type 1 Seyfert nuclei have excess [Fe VII] λ6087 emission with respect to type 2s, Murayama & Taniguchi have proposed that the high-ionization nuclear emission-line region (HINER) traced by the [Fe VII] λ6087 emission resides in the inner wall of dusty tori. The covering factor of the torus is usually large (e.g., ∼ 0.9). Further, electron density in the tori (e.g., ∼ 107–8 cm...

The Correlation of Narrow Line Emission and X-ray Luminosity in Active Galactic Nuclei

Aims. We combine emission line and X-ray luminosities for 45 sources from the Chandra Deep Field South (CDF-S), and seven HELLAS sources, to obtain a new sample of 52 X-ray selected type-II active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Eighteen of our sources are very luminous with a typical, absorption-corrected 2–10 keV luminosity of f ew × 1044 ergs s−1 (type-II QSOs). Methods. We compare the emission line...

Active Galactic Nuclei Emission-line Properties versus Eddington Ratio

We analyze UV spectra for a large sample of 578 Type 1 Active Galactic Nuclei and derive Eddington ratios, L/Ledd, from the bolometric luminosities and emission line widths for each object in the sample. The sample spans five orders of magnitude in supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass, seven orders of magnitude in luminosity, and a redshift range from 0 ≤ z ≤ 5. We include a sample of 26 lowreds...

Emission-line diagnostics of low-metallicity active galactic nuclei

Current emission-line-based estimates of the metallicity of active galactic nuclei (AGN) at both high and low redshifts indicate that AGN have predominantly solar-to-supersolar metallicities. This leads to the question: do low-metallicity AGN exist? In this paper, we use photoionization models to examine the effects of metallicity variations on the narrow emission-lines from an AGN. We explore ...
